Abstract

Carludovica palmata is a plant classified as a species of plant kingdom of the order Cyclanthales of the

family Cyclanthaceae. Its commercial interest is related to the production of fibers for the elaboration of

handicratis, mainly from the Suaceño hat as a cultural heritage. Therefore, it is of great importance to carry

out a preliminary study for the conservation and propagation of the species as raw material. The objective

of this research is to identify its population density, the artisanal process of fiber extraction and the

identification of the mother plant for its propagation. To determine the population density, an estimate

was made where the low population of the species is observed. The extraction of the fiber was carried out

in an ancient artisan way, obtaining a white and resistant thread for its use; In this way, the mother plant

was identified to be able to carry out the propagation in vitro and in the field.
