Abstract
The commercial use of natural fibers for the development of products is demanded by the artisan market, to compensate for the strong competition of low-priced imported products that are manufactured with synthetic fibers, but with motifs that simulate crafts. From communities to independent artisans, they see how this ancestral knowledge is being lost due to the low generational transfer that is no longer made due to the few commercial possibilities that these products offer. Knowing the fibers and their physical and chemical characteristics allow us to identify the possibilities for the development of new commercially attractive products in the market. Therefore, the natural fibers available in Colombia are identified and then, during the field work, collect the physical samples and start the particular study of the qualitative and quantitative characteristics of each one. The findings are documented in a virtual consultation instrument with the information resulting from said study, in addition to a repository of the physical samples found.
