Abstract

The Servicio Nacional de Aprendizaje SENA is an institution of a public nature which offers free education to all Colombian citizens in technical, technological, and complementary formation programs, with integral and laboral formation, especially to socio-economic strata 0, 1, and 2. At the Santander regional Sena division, different programs are offered to the community, among them a Business Management technological program, which is highly desired by the community; however, despite the significant number of candidates who apply for it, a high level of academic desertion, in which students don’t finish their formation because of a diversity of situations, has also been detected.
A model for an early alarm system is presented, based on qualitative research by means of a descriptive study with deductive methodology, focused on the identification and analysis of information, due to it being the type of study that best fits the nature of the problem, and having in mind that the qualitative method focuses on the search of meaning though deep description that also eases access to its interpretation and leads to the comprehension of the facts. For that end, experts and apprentices in the Business Management technological program will be interviewed, and the desertion reports according to SPADIES from 2016 to 2019, as well as socio-economic characterization surveys applied by the Sena, will be reviewed and analyzed. The intended result to be delivered are strategies for implementing an management model to mitigate the desertion in the Business Management technological program.
