Abstract
Historically the mining sector has been considered as one of the main areas for the economic development of the country. However, for some years its activities have been affected by the growing informality of mining exploitation in the regions of Colombia and the ignorance and/ or disinformation of the community present in the area of influence of the mining projects.
The department of Huila is no stranger to the problems that afflict the national mining sector and particularly this is affected by the lack of technification of the mining works and the low level of mining formalization, which generates huge economic losses that impede the development of the mining sector of the area and the population present in the mining poles of the
region. This motivated the realization of this article where the studies, works and analysis of the mining production units of the department, the role of mining in the territory of Huila and its impact on the productive projects of the communities
are discussed. In addition, the investigation of the mining ownership, production and royalties of the mining of Huila, allows to generate a real vision of the mineral exploitation in the department, where the geological characteristics of the different types of mineral resources, such as stone aggregates, gold, clays, phosphorite, ornamental rocks, limestone, marble and rare earths,
among others, are a comparative advantage to guarantee the sustainable and sustainable development of the region.
