Abstract

In 2018, the GRINDDA research group of the CPIC, developed a research project on the elaboration of non-ceramic tiles for floors and walls, this project was well received at the dissemination events, and it was there that the Manizaleña Mayco company SA, dedicated for more than 30 years to the production of products from recycled plastic, is interested in developing a second phase of this project, in order to expand its product portfolio and enter the area of architectural finishes.
This research and innovation project arises from the interest of giving additional uses to plastic waste, motivated by reducing the pollution they produce. So then, a new product made with recycled plastic material is proposed, which is obtained from plantain and banana crops. To carry out the project, three phases are considered. The first phase consists of conducting a market study on ceramic tiles and plastic floors on the market in order to check their characteristics and components. The second phase seeks to recognize the current production process of the company to know the machinery and raw materials that they use to make their products. Finally, in the third phase, the design of the mixture that is going to be implemented for the elaboration of the plastic tile is contemplated and the final results can be obtained with the physical and mechanical tests of the final prototype and thus implement the new line of architectural finishes.
