Abstract
The purpose of the article was to describe the demographic characteristics of the students of the first semester of the medical school of a public university in Venezuela, during the period 2021. For this, a quantitative, descriptive methodology was applied, with a nonexperimental design, cross-sectional and field. The population under study was 300 students who are in the first year of medicine at that university. The sample consisted of 169 students, according to simple stratified random probabilistic
sampling for finite populations. To measure the demographic characteristics, a structured questionnaire was applied, which
consisted of 18 dichotomous and polychotomous questions, nominal and ordinal scale. The results show that they have an approximate average age of 19.43, 65.7% are female; 34.3% male, among other characteristics. It was possible to determine the demographic characteristics of the population under study, which constitutes a relevant input for the strategies to be designed in professional training.
