Professional offer in Colombia 2001-2020: Librarians, Archivists and Information Sciences

Abstract

The professional offer in librarianship, archival and information science allows determining the professional possibilities, supply and demand in the exercise of these professions. Higher Education Institutions in Colombia, represented in university corporations, university institutions, technical and technological schools , and universities, have the responsibility to offer academic programs at the levels of training stipulated by the Ministry of National Education of Colombia.  The objective of this study was to analyze the data of graduates in academic programs, at the levels of technical training, technologist and professional undergraduate, between the years 2000 to 2020, available in the National Information System of Higher Education of Colombia. From a process of Data Download, Data Integration, Identification and Standardization of program names and Data Analysis, the total number of graduates in library science, archiving and information science were identified, higher education institutions that graduate, study methodologies, offering by department and city and even gender. This study complements the research development of other investigations around the analysis of profiles, professional offer and the professional application of the librarian and archivist in the information units of Colombia.
