Resumen

El sistema de producción acuapónico es un sistema biointegrado que junta
la acuicultura de recirculación y la producción hidropónica de plantas. Los
nutrientes, que son excretados directamente por los organismos acuáticos
o generados por las reacciones microbianas sobre los desechos orgánicos,
son absorbidos por las plantas cultivadas hidropónicamente. El uso de sistemas
acuapónicos tiene varias ventajas sobre los sistemas de recirculación
en acuicultura y los sistemas hidropónicos que usan nutrientes inorgánicos.
Una de ellas es el aprovechamiento de los desechos generados por los componentes
acuáticos, los cuales constituyen un problema en todos los sistemas
de producción. Al presentar Colombia un gran potencial de producción de
peces y plantas, resulta indispensable y necesario fomentar la realización
de proyectos que vinculen los dos sistemas de producción. La siguiente
revisión tiene como objetivo describir, de forma general, los sistemas de
recirculación acuapónicos
