Editorial management

Editorial management is a continuous process of transforming manuscripts into articles, where different actors intervene, among which are authors, reviewers, editors, style editors, and layout designers, among others. In this process, quality controls, time standards, and those responsible for activities are established. Figure presents the phases of editorial management that encompass the management of manuscripts and the production of articles.

Phase 1: manuscript management

This phase ranges from the call to the acceptance of the manuscript by the editor. The steps involved in this phase are described below.

Call: The Training Center issues a statement specifying the thematic areas defined in the journal's approach, the guidelines for authors, the dates of receipt of articles, and the journal's contact details.

Manuscript reception: compliance with the approach, the guidelines for the journal authors, and the originality of the manuscript are verified by the originality verifier adopted by the entity. The author's information format adopted by the journal is requested, this information is confidential and should not be disclosed to comply with the double-blind evaluation. In the case of having section editors, the respective assignment will be made.

Manuscript evaluation: two peer evaluators are selected, and the manuscript is sent to them with the evaluation format adopted by the journal and information from the evaluator, as well as the information format of the authors, the information provided by the evaluators is confidential and is not must disclose.

Communication to authors: authors are sent the concept of the editor, the results of the evaluations, and the deadline for making corrections is indicated, if applicable.

Author’s response: the authors must resubmit the manuscript with the changes requested by the reviewers and the editor on the established dates. This process can be repeated up to three times maximum.

Editorial decision: once the manuscript has been accepted or rejected, the authors will be informed by email and a certification signed by the journal director. In case of approval, the transfer of copyright is requested.

Phase 2: production of articles

This phase ranges from style correction to publication of the issue of the journal.

Copy editing: accepted manuscripts will be sent for copy edition in Spanish and English.

Layout: the design of the manuscript will be carried out in the digital version, XML markup, and galley of the articles to the OJS platform.

Manuscript approval: the manuscript will be sent to the authors for their approval. Once the response has been sent by the authors, a final verification is carried out before publishing the manuscript using the originality checker.

Publication of the journal number: at this point, the manuscripts to be published for each issue and/or volume of the journal will be selected. The design of:

• Cover: must contain the head of the magazine (SENA logo, name, and logo of the magazine), volume and number, month and year of publication, periodicity, ISSN, and e-ISSN. If you do not yet have ISSN and e-ISSN, space will be left to incorporate them once they are assigned by the National Library of Colombia. When the magazine is financed by SENNOVA, the logo must appear. The reduced postage rate must be included for printed magazines that have requested it. The guidelines established in the SENA Corporate Identity Manual must be applied and the magazine's logos must be registered (give protection to the registered trademark).

• Table of contents: there should be the title of the journal, volume, number, and date of publication, ISSN, e-ISSN, sections of the journal, title in Spanish, and English of the articles, names of each author and pagination.

• Content of the journal: the articles will be generated in PDF and XML format to be published in the SENA journal portal and make the digital legal deposit by sending the files to the National Library of Colombia, the Library Central of the National University, the Library of Congress of the Republic, and the corresponding Departmental Library.
