Abstract

Captive breeding is the fundamental pillar for the development of pisciculture as a bio-industry for the implementation of recovery programs of degraded environments and for the maintenance and preservation of species, ensuring their monitoring. The development of biotechnological programs related to improving mechanisms for captive breeding of fish, have proven successful in aquaculture programs. Several of these biotechnologies, with a full industrial application, have been initially developed in non-tropical species, becoming indispensable that in the near future these strategies can also be applied in fish endemic in our region. Colombia has a great potential to produce fish in captivity; hence, it is essential to promote research and development projects related to the reproduction of fish species with commercial value. Thus, the following review seeks to present some biotechnological techniques applied to the production of fish in captivity.
