Abstract

The strategic management of the scientific and technological information is increasingly more important to innovate the development of new products and processes. The research work in different areas such as materials science along with industries, is the perfect formula to find a product, improve an existing one and so find alternative applications to it. This paper presents a review of the literature on the main features and trends in the use of the xpandable polymeric microspheres, including applications derived from completed studies and developing research lines. Some important applications are: the surface modification on some materials such as, leather, thermal insulation, car parts and maxillofacial prosthesis manufacture. Potential applications that are worth noting are: the manufacture of materials with sound insulation, and as a component in elastomers for the production of lightweight and comfortable soles.
